Drumline Earns WGI Bronze!
On Friday April 16 the 2010 Oceanside High School competed in the Winter Guard International Percussion Scholastic A World Championships. They scored 95.55, the highest any instrumental group from Oceanside High has scored at any event.
On Thursday they placed second in their round of 58 in preliminaries (fifth overall in PSA) with a score of 90.375, advanced them to the semi finals round. Later Thursday evening they scored 93.938, placing them second in their group of twenty.
On Friday they got up to an early start, rehearsing early due to inclement weather rolling into our housing and rehearsal site in Xenia, Ohio. After taking care of the daily study time, the entire group headed out for dinner together, then went back to the hotel to change clothes before departing for the University of Dayton Arena for their Finals performance.
After warming up in the arena parking lot, they proceded down “The Hill”, a long, steep indoor hill that takes them to the performance floor. After a few minute wait behind a big black curtain, they went on and performed. Following their performance, and a trek back up The Hill, they met up in the parking lot and loaded our equipment back up, and waited for awards.
Around 10:00pm the awards started, and the kids were all ushered in together onto the arena floor for the awards announcements, and the awards were followed by cheers, hugs and tears from the students, staff and chaperones.
Congratulations to our students, staff, chaperones and boosters on an amazing season, and thank you to all of them for all of their hard work to make this happen.
Continue to watch our Facebook and Twitter feeds for photos, videos and other news from the remainder of the trip.
